As we are now in the midst of lockdown we wanted to let you know that we are still planning to run the Christmas Head on 5 December (assuming that we come out of lockdown on 2 December.) While we are aware that most people won’t have had the opportunity to do much on the water training, the feedback that we are getting is that people would like to do a fun race (especially if fancy dress is involved!)

If the event is cancelled, or certain classes of boats are not able to row then we will provide refunds on race entries. Given that some college clubs need college approval to row (in addition to BR go ahead), we will also allow people to change entries (eg by swapping boat class) up until 3 December.

As you may know, we are limiting entries in order to maintain social distancing and for general safety reasons.

In order to be fair to all entrants we will be allocating places in the event based on the date people enter or contact me using the following ranking:

1. Crews that have entered specific categories and paid
2. Crews that have entered and paid but now wish to change category eg an 8+ to a 4+
3. Crews that have entered online (https://www.droplet.events/christmas-head) but have not paid
4. Crews that have entered online, have not paid and wish to change category
5. College crews that email me at eventsccrc[at]gmail.com with an expression of interest setting out the probable crews they will enter.

We very much recognise that this is a difficult time for the rowing community and want to put on an event that is safe, fun, fair and rewarding.

Please do get in touch if you have any questions.

Lockdown Update

Uncategorised

11th November 2020

As you’ll be aware, we are currently in a national lockdown which is expected to last until at least Wednesday 2nd December.

We have received the official guidance from British Rowing and as expected have closed the boathouse and ceased all rowing activities from the facility. We will wait until British Rowing gives us the go ahead to open up again.

Once we are allowed to open up again, we will make every attempt to get people out on the water as quickly and as safely as possible.

Similar to the last lockdown, we will be providing a number of activities and programmes to our members during this time. Including zoom circuit sessions, strength and conditioning, high intensity interval training and mobility/flexibility sessions.

We’ll also be continuing our technical seminars with Robin Williams and online squad meet ups: whether this be in the form of quizzes, gaming or just a virtual coffee morning.

If you’re looking to contact the club, please don’t hesitate to contact the committee here

We are back and on the water! We started getting single sculls out in June, but now have been able to build to something resembling a normal program, with singles and pairs/doubles now out and fours due to go out from mid-August.

Once again we are taking on new members who already have some experience of the sport and can offer:

  • Rowing and sculling in “bubbles” of six
  • Six distanced and ventilated erg stations
  • Two distanced weights stations
  • A large fleet of 11 singles, 9 pairs/doubles and 12 fours/quads
  • A strong boat buying program. In the last two year we have bought: a Filippi 8+, a Filippi 4+, a Filippi 4x/-, two Filippi 2x/-, two Fluidesign 1x and 1 Kangua 1x
  • A coaching program developed with and mentored by Robin Williams, MBE
  • On-line professionally run S&C sessions
  • We also have access to a sports psychologist and nutritional experts

Last weekend saw Robin Williams, MBE return to City of Cambridge to work with our coaching team. Over the course of the day he worked with six of the club’s coaches and ran an erg coaching session.

The initiative is part of the club’s drive to unify our coaching style and “coach the coaches” to a gold medal standard. If you are a coach, rower or cox and want to be part of our growth story then get in touch! #redbluegrowingGold
