Undeterred by event cancellations, our W1 spent the day in race simulation mode at the @cubcsquad Ely boathouse. Big 5km timed piece in the bag. 🏆😮‍💨🏅⛰️

Throwback to a few weekends ago when Henry and Harry represented City at GB u19 trials in Boston.

It was an excellent experience for both of them and we’re very proud of their achievement. They are the first athletes to represent City at trials for a number of years!

A very successful first couple of weeks of head race season with outstanding results from Small Boats Head and Autumn Head. This weekend City was also represented by three crews at Pairs Head on the Tideway.

Cambridge Small Boats Head: 14 categories won out of 20 categories entered. City set the overall fastest times of the day with senior men (O Champ 4+) and junior boys (O J16 4x-) & the junior girls were the fastest amongst all women’s crews racing (W J16 4x-).

Cambridge Autumn Head: 9 categories won out of 12 entered. City set the overall fastest times of the day yet again with senior men (O Champ 8+ & O ClubA 8+) & senior women were the fastest amongst all women’s crews racing (W Champ 8+).

City colours took over the River Cam this weekend as we kicked off the first outings of the season with over 140 rowers out on Saturday and nearly as many again on Sunday! 🚣‍♂️

Earlier this week, we kicked off the season with our Men’s and Women’s squad meetings, setting the tone and intention for another exciting season ahead, building on the strong and positive foundations laid over the past few years.

Going into the final day of bumps, the battle for the John Jenner trophy was nip and tuck. City set the fourth highest net score in history +14 across 16 bumps to take the prize.

City finished with:
- a net score of +62 across the week, far eclipsing the previous CRA club record of +43
- victory in the John Jenner trophy, with a score of +2.38, the highest JJ score ever for a large entry
- victory in the Stephen Allen bowl, with the juniors and St Mary’s averaging over a bump a day
- 5 sets of full blades and 3 sets of discretionary blades
- won the mens headship for the second year in succession to take City to 34 headships (18 mens, 16 womens)
- City M3 5th in the river, higher than every other clubs second boat
- City W2 4th on the river
- 10 boats in the top division, the most of any club

Across the 26 boats 14 boats bumped up with a net score of +17. This was a new CRA record for a single day score!

Henley Royal Regatta 2024 📢

A highly successful Henley for our Men’s squad. Overall City had two boats qualify into the regatta, the Wyfold (4-) and The Thames Cup (8+).

After progressing to Wednesday the Wyfold four put up a terrific performance to push Mercantile Rowing Club to a close finish. On Wednesday the Thames Cup eight sadly lost to a very good London crew.

Excellent work by Jamie Gare, former City junior, who took a victory in the Double Sculls Challenge Cup also.

Congratulations to all the hardworking athletes and dedicated coaches.

Our Wyfold (4-) of Duncan, Pete, James and Ed, who pre-qualified will race tomorrow.

The Thames (8+) of Amy, Callum, Adam, Eddie, Freddie, Matt, Tim, Stu and Alex will have their first race on Wednesday.

A phenomenal weekend of racing at Henley Women's Regatta!

Our Aspirational 4x and Development 4+ crews both qualified for their respective heats and competed in some great side-by-side racing.

The 4+ raced Aberdeen all the way to the line and just lost out by a length. Our Aspirational 4x managed to progress to Sunday’s quarter-finals after beating Nottingham University. But ultimately lost out to Willem III Rowing Club after an excellent race, the first time since 2015 City has won a round at Henley Women's Regatta.

Congratulations as well to our junior crew and City / St Marys composite who raced well in Saturday’s time trials, all were pleased with their race with two juniors competing at HWR for their first time as well.
