City of Cambridge Win in Open Fours and Masters C Double at Huntingdon Head

The club achieved a 100% record at Huntingdon Head with wins in the Open Coxed Four category and Open Masters C/D Double categories. First off was the double comprising Chris Ware and Seb Walker which won comfortably despite the challenging bends in the course. The two then teamed up with Club President Tony Nelder, Sam Luke and Julie Hogg to give the club’s new Filippi coxed four its second outing and first race. Thanks to an unrelenting pace the crew were able to win and even posted a faster time than the winning coxless four.

Success at Pairs Head for City of Cambridge women

The Cub’s women’s squad saw success at Pairs Head on 6 October achieving a second place result in the Women’s Club Pairs category. The pair comprising Mez Dubois-van Slageren and Sarah Pocock completed the course in a time of 15 minutes and 59 seconds. The club’s other women’s crew came 4th in the Intermediate Pairs category and both beat local rivals Cantabs.

City of Cambridge Masters head to Hungary for the World Masters Regatta

The club’s masters squad took time to compete in the World masters Regatta racing in the Masters B Pair, Masters C Pair, Masters B Double Masters C Double, Masters B Coxed Four Masters C Coxed Four as well as a composite Women’s Quad with X-Press boat club and a Mixed Masters C Double and a composite Mixed Masters C Eight with X-Press, Champion of the Thames and Cantabs.

Highlights were a second placing from the Masters B Pair and third place positions from the Open Masters C Double and Mixed Masters C Double.

City of Cambridge Rowing Club engages Robin Williams, MBE to coach the club’s coaches

City of Cambridge Rowing Club has engaged Robin Williams to oversee and mentor its coaches and coaching program.

Robin Williams represented Great Britain at six world championships, winning silver and bronze medals. He was coach to the Cambridge University Boat Club for 11 years winning seven Varsity Boat races. He was also coach to the World record holders and the Olympic, World, World Cup and European champions of the women’s coxless pair, variously rowed by Helen Glover, Heather Stanning and Polly Swann.
