Rowing is a sport that can change lives with its unique combination of skills, challenge and teamwork.

Too often though the sport has been the preserve of rowing schools and universities as well as those lucky enough to encounter it by chance.

East Anglia Youth Rowing Program is an outreach program to introduce rowing to some of the more disadvantaged students at schools in East Anglia, with the goal of fostering inclusion, challenge and aspiration.  We also want to broaden access to the sport. The program will be run from City of Cambridge Rowing Club in partnership with Isle of Ely, Sudbury and Huntingdon rowing clubs.  The program is supported by the British Rowing Eastern Region Rowing Council and is part funded by LoveRowing, the British Rowing charitable foundation.

We will be launching the program in January 2022 with North Cambridge Academy where students from Year 9 will have the chance to take part in indoor and water rowing twice a week. At the same time we are joining forces with Isle of Ely Rowing Club to enhance an existing program at Ely College that is supported by the Gemini Boat Race Bursary Fund. From Easter we will be launching a program with Sudbury Rowing Club to bring rowing to Thomas Gainsborough School. Further schools will be added as funds become available.

If you are …

  • A school that is interested in the program
  • A rower, cox, coach or umpire within the sport who would like support the program by volunteering
  • A company that would like to support a program that will impact the life chances of disadvantaged students

… then we would like to hear from you. Email – events[at]cityrc.co.uk
