Background


City of Cambridge Rowing Club (CCRC) is one of the oldest rowing clubs in Cambridge.  The club has a broad membership from juniors, through seniors to masters across sweep and sculling.  It competes both regionally and nationally.  The club has recently completed a new boathouse which it shares with St Mary’s School and Homerton College.  The new facility includes a state-of-the-art gym, clubroom and boat bay with the most modern fleet on the river Cam.  With the completion of these renovations, the club intends to further grow and develop. 
 
CCRC has also taken the lead in a new outreach program, titled East Anglia Youth Rowing, 
to encourage a broader uptake to the sport from students from deprived backgrounds.  The program will be based at CCRC, but will be run in partnership with rowing clubs and schools in East Anglia.  It will involve indoor rowing at each school that joins the program as well as water sessions at each of the clubs.
 
The club is hiring a full-time rowing professional to drive its Development and Outreach aspirations. It is expected that the outreach program will take up to 50% of the professional’s time and that the balance of the role will be supporting CCRC’s rowing program.  This professional must be a passionate and enthusiastic individual who uses their experience of rowing and coaching at all levels to inspire people from a range of backgrounds to achieve their best.
 
The successful candidate will ideally have a strong track record of delivery both in rowing and coaching.  However, most important will be their passion and enthusiasm for the sport and ability to shape a pathway for individuals regardless of background.

Role Responsibilities 


The role will comprise of the following key duties:


Lead the East Anglia Youth Rowing outreach programme – working with local state schools in offering a land and water-based rowing programme that can both change lives and bring new people to the sport – generally week-day sessions run during school hours. 
Development of the club’s junior and senior programs – working with the club captain to implement a development pathway framework that supports the development of the athletes in the club – generally weekend mornings.
Support volunteer coaches and the wider club membership – providing technical knowledge and guidance to volunteer squad coaches and club members.

Remuneration and Terms: 
The salary is £25,000 per annum, with an annual leave entitlement of four weeks plus statutory holidays.  All reasonable expenses will be covered.  Initial contract to run from start 2022 to end July 2023.
 
Key skills required: 
Proven coaching expertise in sculling and rowing
Project management/organisation skills
Proven ability to engage and communicate with diverse audiences in a clear concise manner
Ability to use software tools /applications to support data management and effective communication.
Key competencies required:
Bias for action (action orientated, self-starting)
Building talent and teams (active development).
Essential experience and qualifications:
Experience of a school or youth sport program
Experience in developing athletes from first-entry to sport of rowing to being competitive
Ability to plan, collaborate, organise and deliver programmes
British Rowing Coaching qualification UKCC Level 2 or a track record of coaching experience
Current clean full driving licence.
Desirable experience and qualifications:
First aid qualification
Driving licence with the ability to tow trailers
R Y A Powerboat Level 2 or international equivalent.
