Strong performances for City of Cambridge at the BR Masters Championships

City of Cambridge celebrated strong weekend performances at the national British Rowing Masters Championships in Nottingham.  On Saturday the men’s Masters C pair (average age 43-50), stroked by Chris Ware and steered by club captain Seb Walker, won the A-C non-championship division beating Birmingham, Tyne and Leicester Rowing Clubs. The duo were on form again on Sunday, winning bronze in a thrilling men’s Masters C pairs final, pipping Plymouth by just 0.01 seconds.  City enjoyed further success on Sunday with the Masters C mixed double consisting of Chris and Kate Ware finishing as runners up in the A-C category.

The championships, which is open to Masters rowers (aged 27+), saw 865 crews taking part, with a record 609 entries to the Championship category.  In total 131 clubs were represented.

Masters rowing is a fast-growing area of the sport and City has several masters crews on both the men’s and women’s squad sides who train and compete together on and off-Cam.
