City of Cambridge’s Masters E crew (average age between 55 and 59) put in a very strong performance to win the men’s Masters eights by a convincing margin.  The crew was coxed by Julie Hogg who steered tight lines around Grassy and Ditton Corners saving valuable seconds.  Once in the straights the added training that the crew have been carrying out helped them to match the speed of crews over twenty years younger than them.  The final masters adjusted time of 8 minutes and 51 seconds placed them some 16 seconds ahead of their nearest rivals. Commenting Club President and stroke of the crew Tony Nelder said, “It was our first race since the Town Bumps and a nice solid start to the winter season.”
